LUMINAIRES FOR
BATHROOM LIGHTING
New legislation has been introduced
regarding Luminaires for Bathrooms.
Section 601 of BS7671 : 1992 (IEE Wiring
Regulation) has been revised
(amendment 3) and a synopsis is printed
below to assist with your choice of
bathroom lighting.
ZONE 0 - Is the interior of the bath
tub or shower tray. We do
not supply luminaires for
this zone.
ZONE 1 - This is the area directly
above the bath tub or
shower tray to a height of
2.25M above the floor.
Protection required is a
minimum of IPX4 (splash
proof) for normal domestic
use.
ZONE 2 - a) This is the area over the
bath tub or shower tray
above zone 1.
b) This is the area external
to zone 1 and extends to a
vertical plane 0.6M external to zone 1 to a height of 2.25M. Protection required is the same as zone 1.
ZONE 3 - a) This is the area above zone 2 as shown in diagram.
b) This is the area external to zone 2 to a distance of 2.4M from zone 2 and height above the floor of 2.25M.
Protection required is IP20 for normal domestic use.All luminaires have a minimum protection of IP20.
We recommend that you consult a qualified electrician to ensure that the wiring and supply are protected in accordance
with the regulations.
